About Christopher Braman

Christopher Braman is the founder of Braman Jiu Jitsu in Rhode Island—and he didn’t stumble into grappling later in life. He grew up in it.

Christopher started training at a young age alongside his father and brother, learning Yang Ki Yin Jiu Jitsu and wrestling, continuing through high school. That early foundation shaped his approach to training: discipline, toughness, and the habit of showing up and putting in real work.

Christopher began his BJJ journey training under Mat Santos Academy under George Thebault. After earning his brown belt, he continued training under Rich Henry (Chewjitsu’s first black belt) and Ryan Chin. Christopher was awarded his black belt by Rich and Ryan under the Chewjitsu lineage, with Ryan Chin’s lineage connection coming through Carlos Machado.

Black Belt Lineage: Chewjitsu → Rich Henry → Chris Braman

Later on, Christopher found Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and fell in love with the depth of it—the technique, the problem-solving, and the way you can keep learning for life. His coaching style reflects that same mindset: strong fundamentals, clear instruction, and a team culture that’s welcoming, respectful, and built on consistent progress.

He built Braman Jiu Jitsu around a few core values:

  • Consistency over intensity

  • Technique first, always

  • No ego, just growth

  • A team culture that supports each other on and off the mats
